Welcome to Introspect Counselling & Psychotherapy

People typically come to see a counsellor or psychotherapist because of the mental health impact of a variety of difficult life circumstances.

Attending a therapist means that you acknowledge what’s not working in your life and that want to address the emotional impact of these challenges in your life by making real, sustainable changes. It takes great courage to arrange a visit to a therapist and take the first steps in therapy. These first steps, no matter how tentative, can begin transformative experiences like; dealing with loss/bereavement; addressing family and relationship issues; managing workplace stress; finding meaning in life; growing as a person; improving relationships and a host of other benefits.

At Introspect Counselling & Psychotherapy, our foundational values are respect for your experience, understanding you in the context of your life, empathy for your specific life circumstances. We place your mental health and wellbeing at the centre of our relationship.

Is therapy for me?

If you have found it difficult to cope with your life circumstances such that you’ve found it hard to function, if your suffering has not been eased through social supports from family/friends or if you have experienced an impactful life event (or are about to) then therapy may be for you.

How do I get the best out of therapy?

Don’t expect magic. Change is challenging. It takes time to address problems you may have had for a long time. Therapy is not advice. Getting the right therapist is important and it may take a little time to find an approach and person who is right for you.

Which approach works best?

Though there are hundreds of approaches to therapy, each can be helpful and effective. Some focus on your past, some on your present, some on skills development, some on your thinking and behaviour etc. Read a little about each style and talk to your therapist about what’s right for you.

What if I’m not getting what I need from therapy?

With our service, we work to integrate tools, approaches and methods using best practice, supported by research and practice to create a bespoke version of therapy that works for you. By collaborating with you at each step in the process, we work together to find what fits you needs and objectives.

How long will therapy take?

Some people come to therapy for a short time to focus specific issues, others, might need time to figure out what they want from their lives. Your specific needs and goals will inform duration of your work. Complex issues require time to sort through. We review progress regularly and adjust as needed.

Is therapy expensive?

Coming to therapy is a financial investment in your mental health and wellbeing. The value of something often exceeds its price. Everyone’s means are different though, so please feel free to discuss circumstances with us so that we can find an arrangement which works for us both.
